Treasury of the World: Jewelled Arts of India in the Age of the Mughals swept through Asia in 2010, spending three months at the Asian Civilizations Museum in Singapore and drawing huge crowds for more than six months at the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur. In Europe, the Dar al-Athar al-Islamiyyah’s new travelling exhibition, Al-Fann: Art from Islamic Civilization made its debut at the Palazzo Reale in Milan, Italy, with an accompanying catalogue by exhibition curator, Giovanni Curatola. Exhibitions with loans from The al-Sabah Collection were on display on both US coasts, with Pathways to the Modern World: Travelling the Silk Road in New York at the American Museum of Natural History and India’s Fabled City: The Art of Courtly Lucknow at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) in California.
Friends of the DAI were also on the road in 2010. In the spring, the DAI led a cultural expedition to Azerbaijan. In the fall, the expedition took them to Mamluk Egypt.
In Kuwait, the 15th Cultural Season came to a close and the 16th season began. The DAI Music Circle increased the number of scheduled concerts and the Children’s Art Workshop expanded it programme to include children between the ages of 6 and 12. Hadeeth ad-Dar and Bareed ad-Dar were each published twice and the Amricani Cultural Centre hosted Jam Sessions: America’s Jazz Ambassadors Embrace the World, a photography exhibition organised with US Embassy.
Treasury of the World: Jewelled Arts of India in the Age of the Mughals in Asia, Al-Fann: Art from Islamic Civilization in Europe, loans on exhibition in the United States and scores of activities, including an exhibition, in Kuwait: DAI was truly international in 2010.
